A new version of Knights has been released!
This time there are two major new features:
- There is a brand new Tutorial level. This should make it a lot easier for newbies to learn how to play. Old timers might also like to play through the Tutorial, as there are a couple of interesting challenges in there 🙂
- Lua support has been added. This allows players to make their own modifications (mods) for the game. Already some players have created mods, adding things like spiders, living armours, and a hilarious (imho) new wand type. To see what people are doing, check out the forums.
As usual, head to the download page for downloads and detailed release notes.
P.S. Due to a technical issue the official Knights game server is currently offline. I’ll fix this later today.
About Knights
Knights is a multiplayer dungeon bashing game. Players must explore randomly generated dungeons and compete to solve various quests. For more information please visit http://www.knightsgame.org.uk/.
I cannot compile it:
/usr/bin/ld: src/coercri/timer/generic_timer.o: undefined reference to symbol ‘clock_gettime@@GLIBC_2.2.5’
/usr/bin/ld: note: ‘clock_gettime@@GLIBC_2.2.5’ is defined in DSO /lib/librt.so.1 so try adding it to the linker command line
/lib/librt.so.1: could not read symbols: Invalid operation
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [knightsgame] Error 1
Can you tell whether it is an upstream or packaging issue? :S
Hi, I’m sorry you couldn’t build Knights.
It builds fine for me on Debian — are you using some other distribution?
I suggest you try the following: append “-lrt” (without the quotes) to the definition of BOOST_LIBS in the Knights Makefile, and then try rebuilding. Let me know if that fixes it…
it needs libboost-system and libboost-filesystem dev-packages installed from repos..
maybe the build manual needs a little update on the packages needed before building.
it works great! thanx!
Ah yes, I did start using boost::filesystem in this release, so that makes sense. I’ll update the manual. Thanks for reporting this.
Wow, it did work. Thanks a lot! 21 comming to Chakra soon 🙂
This version has been out just over a month now and already responsible for countless moments of incredible fun!
I’ve personally enjoyed the gameplay with my family and with great Knights fans around the world (especially on our weekly Sunday quests).
The tutorial gives everyone a fighting chance to understand important concepts and feels like a great addition to acclimate brave new Knights.
The modding elements have truly expanded the minds and smiles of your deepest fans. Your work and Support on LUA scripting has enabled and is still turning out wondrous new elements never before seen in the Knight’s dungeons.
My thanks always goes out to you Stephen, and this time, even with only 1 month after release, my thanks go out to everyone modding Knights! I would put names here, but for fear of leaving someone off, accidentally, I’ll just say, you know who you are..
Thank you very much for all your coding and graphical contributions to this new version of Knights.
Stephen, v21, excellent release as always and this time monumental!
